I just can't believe how quickly the school year is coming to an end. Now is not the time to stop the studying though. Every day you should be practicing your basic facts and working on the JUMP math pages. We worked through P. 193-196 today and will continue tomorrow on page 198. Please keep pace with the assignments so you can come to me and the class with any questions that may arise. Also show your parents the pre and post tests that we've done so far in Math. They too, are a great way to review concepts and prepare for the Math exam! Review test # 3 is this Friday!
Lesson # 15 (grey worksheet) is due on Friday and the test is Friday too. We are still waiting on a couple of H.S. forms to be returned so we can get started on the important health topic. It certainly was great seeing the constables yesterday when they arrived with your notebooks and certificates. What a wonderful opportunity we had, being provided a week long stint at the Police Interpretive Centre.......for free! Coming soon, teachers from Teachers Pet will be in Room 23, here to deliver an exciting afternoon of learning more about the Iroquois Confederacy, one of the units in the Grade 6 Social Studies curriculum. This will support our studies and prepare us for the exam. Please remember to bring in your $10.00 to cover the cost of this in-school field trip. If you are interested in soccer, Mr. Mak and I will be running a club (only 4 sessions) starting on May 31st. See permission forms being handed out tomorrow.

Last week's spelling list words proved to be rather difficult for some of you so I am willing to allow you to take a retest this Wednesday to improve your mark. You can even earn yourself some money if you manage to get 100%! This should be easy money for most of you! By completing the worksheets you are learning the rules and practicing the correct spelling at the same time. There seemed to be a correlation between those students who didn't have the worksheet completed and the grade received on the test. In other words.... practice, practice, PRACTICE! You are to write out any spelling corrections three times each and do your math corrections from last weeks (Lesson Seven) quiz. Please have your parents sign the quiz and return it tomorrow. Thanks! Please also remember to be practicing your basic facts. Try to develop automaticity ....... so they are rolling off of your tongue! This weeks spelling words are compound words. Lesson #8 Compound Words Compound words are made up of two or more complete words. There are three types of compound words: Closed compound – the words are joined together (keyboard, notebook) Open compound – the words occur together but are not joined ( post office, full moon) Hyphenated compound – the words are separated by a hyphen (self-government, two-fifths). cupboard earring vacuum cleaner hide-and-seek single-handed motorcycle gentlemen post office two—thirds good- natured scapegoat straightforward fire extinguisher warm-blooded merry-go-round overthrow headache solar system runner-up present-day bookkeeper notwithstanding jet stream decision-making cross-pollinate Well what a fun, exciting, educational, bonding and exhausting time we had at Outdoor School. So much learning about our great outdoors and each other!
Now it's time to start putting our noses to the grind stone. I can't believe that February is almost over! The Spelling #6 worksheet has 50 words on it and is a review of lessons 1-5. Please work on the words every day this week so you ace the test this Friday! Try to explain POW #6 to your parents and see if they get it! Fun lunch forms went home today and require a fast turn around. Please return form by tomorrow if you are interested in the 2 fun lunches coming up to help raise funds for the Playground! How is your basic facts recall? This is something else you should be working on all the time! I don't think you are allowed to use your multiplication table on the PAT"s so you should practice daily to up your speed and accuracy! I've extended the home writing assignment where you have to write a speech about something you are passionate about. You will be presenting your speech this Thursday/Friday - earlier if you're done and are ready to present. Good luck! |
