We went over our science study notes and talked about the test tomorrow. If you come across something that needs clarification, try to look up/find out the answer for yourself, otherwise we will discuss/research it tomorrow before the test.
The Remembrance Day assembly is tomorrow at 10:30. If you are a Boy Scout, Girl Guide, Brownie, Cub, etc. you are welcome to wear your uniform. I hope you are ready for the spelling test too. I will try to include some of the type of questions from our JUMP math on the back. Make sure you know how to find prime factorization. (example 3x3x3 =27 is prime factorization for 27). You should be up to P. 61 by now in JUMP. Keep working to catch up and keep pace by taking your JUMP workbook home. Can you tell your parents what a prime number is? 3 is a prime number because it only has two factors 1 and itself,...3, 1x3=3! 3x9=27 BUT... 9 is not a prime number 1x9= 9 and 3x3=9 so 9 has three factors 1,3,and 9. 9 is a composite number. That is why when ask what is the prime factorization of 27 we had to say 3x3x3!

Today we did a bit of a review for the Trees and Forest Science test coming up this Thursday. Make sure you are reading over your notes and completing any unfinished worksheets in you green duo-tang.
By now you should be all caught up on the JUMP math workbook pages from 33, up to and including page 59. The workbook went home today so you can show your parents how you are doing. Make sure you have gone back to see if you have any corrections to do.We have been practicing addition with carrying and subtraction with regrouping. Tell your parents what prime numbers are and what composite numbers are. We are moving onto multiplication so you want to have a solid foundation of the other two operations we've been working on! Many of you are coming to me excited to share how your Monologue Book Talk is unfolding and how your are going to bring your character to life. Now I'm excited for this coming Monday when our first two presentations take place! Keep rehearsing how you plan to present and really intrigue/hook the audience! See this weeks spelling words. They were chosen around words for Remembrance Day. The test will be this Thursday as there is no school on Friday due to Remembrance Day.

We have been working very hard in our JUMP math workbooks. The students are to try to complete from P. 33 up to P. 55 (don't go any further than P. 59 all of you go getters!) Keep working hard on your Monologue Book Talk. Practice in front of a mirror and your pet. They are very good listeners! Book orders are due in by Tuesday, Nov. 8th! Thank you to all who contributed to our WE Scare Away Hunger campaign. Mr. Peterson (with the help of the students in room 23 who loaded them onto his truck) took the food items to the Veteran's Food bank. The people on the receiving end were very appreciative! Today we started working on our ART piece for the Remembrance Day assembly. So far, so beautiful! Have a great weekend! Today in Science you had the opportunity to work in groups and become one of the following: Industry Managers, Wildlife Managers, Recreation Managers, Wilderness Managers, Watershed Managers, and Fire, Insect & Disease Managers. In your group you had to plan one change to the forest, related to your area of management. You were to state the proposed change, the rationale for the change, use the map for the location of changes and how you would implement the change. Use the sheet that is in your green duo tang with bullets of questions to consider. You are to consider a minimum of 6 bullets and record your ideas on paper so you are better able to present your rationale on Thursday.
I hope you are all managing your time and working on your Monologue book talk. The presentations begin on November 14 through to Nov. 23. Maybe we will do the Spelling test on Thursday again. If you ace the test you won't have to write it on Friday! Practice, practice! Some students took home their JUMP math workbook today to try to get caught up. We have worked from pages 33-49. Do what you can(spend 10 minutes or so, tops) and please DON'T leave the workbook at home! We will be working on more pages tomorrow. |
