Please take a look on Sunday's blog to see the spelling words posted for this week. The words should also be written in alphabetical order in the agendas too!
Today the students chose when they want to present their Monologue Book Talk. Ask your child when they present and mark it on the calendar and in their agendas. (I'll check and give points tomorrow if your date is recorded!) That way parents, you can help your child prepare and budget their time. Presentations start in four weeks! Use sticky notes in the book or record page numbers in a notebook as you read to remember relevant things you want to share with the class. Don't forget, on top of becoming and talking as if you were the main character, you also have to read a paragraph from the book. What you select to read is key! You might start your presentation by reading a paragraph from the book to inform the audience of the plot/character or after you've shared while in character with the class, read a passage (maybe an ah hah moment) to tie it all together. Look for the hard copy of the criteria on a green handout - sent home today, or your can find it in the Literacy section of the Weebly. Take a look for information about the new playground being built in Important Information/Messages section. Please do your corrections, share with parents, have them sign and return the subtraction sheets that were sent home today. It was fun painting with you today! Thank you to everyone who helped with the clean up! Have a nice evening!

We will discuss the due date and record your time on the calendar and in your agenda. You can click onto Important Messages/Notices on our Weebly site to see the video on Midnapore's New Playground. Don't forget to vote! I decided it would be nice of me if I gave you a heads up of the words you are going to be quizzed on this Friday. Most of the words are from previous quizzes but I did choose some that came up in the spelling test of 100 words I gave you this week. Here you go!

After giving you some more time today, some of you still have work to do and most everyone can say, "I'm done and I'm proud of my work!" On Friday I will be collecting your Science duo tangs. Make sure all pages are completed to the best of your ability. That also includes your Telus Spark booklet with little added facts of interest :) Please have you duo tang here tomorrow for a fun activity I have planned. We have library tomorrow. Remember to bring in your book so you can renew and/or choose the new book you want to read for the Monologue Book Talk. I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend with loved ones. I know I did and I ate way too much turkey!
There will not be a new spelling list this week as last week was short and this one is too. I will make up a test of 15 - 20 words using words from all of the spelling tests to date (excluding the french words). Practice all of the words, especially the words that gave you difficulty because you won't know until Friday which words are on the test. Be thinking about a book at your reading level that you would like to do a book report on. Preferably a book that you have not read before. We will discuss this further in the week about the details of the report and when it is due. Your Science title page, 'Trees and Forests' along with the worksheets in your green duo tang are to be completed and handed in by this Friday. Also you are to hand in your Telus Spark booklet from the Field Trip last Wednesday. You can include interesting fun facts that you learned and/or have researched because your imagination was sparked! Keep working on completing the items on your 'To Do' checklist. Assignments are due this Friday. It may sound like a lot, but if you have been organized and keeping pace with assignments all it should require is editing/revising for interesting details and embellishing your work to make it your very best. I just want to take this opportunity to thank the boys and girls from Mrs. Peterson's class for the outstanding engagement and behavior at Telus Spark yesterday. I was proud to say, "Yes, this is my group of wonderful individuals!" You guys were well behaved, asked excellent questions, and were outstanding Grade 6 representatives of Midnapore School. A big thank you to the volunteers as well who supported our group.
Today we had buddies and made turkeys in honor of Thanksgiving. I hope everyone enjoys time with family and friends this weekend! No School on Monday. On Tuesday we have our pictures taken! Remember to wear your smile for Picture Day :) Have you completed the items on your "To Do" checklist? I will extend the deadline, but do try to get everything done by the end of next week! Check out the typing practice [email protected]. Use your name and then the last four digits of your students number for your password. Have Fun! Today the students got their new spelling words for the week and wrote them in the agenda. You can also look on Saturday, October 1st where I posted the words early as the test is this Thursday, (-no school for students on Friday).
The October book orders are due back by Tuesday, October 11th (-no school on Monday, October 10th, Thanksgiving). I'm very excited for the Telus Spark field trip coming up this Wednesday! We have a lot of free exploration time so take a look on their website for what 'sparks' your interest and maybe you can convince your chaperone to visit that station. There is so much to see and do! Be practicing your dance moves because we are performing our dance on Thursday at 10:15. All are welcome to attend to see you dance, dance, dance, dance! Can't stop the feeling! If you wanted to put some extra care into the illustration for the Rights of the Child that you have to represent, you are welcome to do so. We will be practicing with water color pencil crayons tomorrow and laminating our best work. Also, we will be preparing to do that art activity tomorrow from That Artist Woman website. Please bring in cardboard paper if you have any and I think we will use sponge and/or bumpy foam if we find any. Dress for art in other words! Where did the month of September go? Time flies when you're working hard AND having fun!
It's kind of a gloomy Saturday so I thought I might give you a heads up for the coming week's spelling list words. (You're going to have to spend time indoors anyway right?) This week the test will be on Thursday as Friday is a Professional Development Day - (no school for you, just the teachers!) The first seven words are ; The days of the week - Les jours de la semaine, and the other words you will be coming across in our literacy centers around inspirational people of the 20th century. Good Luck! Spelling List Words (for the week of October 3rd – 6th ) 1. lundi 9. innovation 2. mardi 10. inspirational 3. mercredi 11. declared 4. jeudi 12. discrimination 5. vendredi 13. influential 6. samedi 14. intentional 7. dimanche 15. model 8. reconcile *Bonus deliberation The Leaf Classification Projects are un- be-LEAF-able! I can really tell who put in the time and effort to set up their leaves under the correct category: (Type, Shape, Margin, Arrangement) so they were displayed beautifully and easy to recognize. Well Done!
It was great having the knowledgable Mr. Gus Yaki here to accompany us on our community walk so he could tell us some of the names of the trees our leaves came from. Ask your child if they can tell you something they learned from this experience. (Hint- Trembling ___________, sunscreen, Blue ____________., Type of Bird ________________, STAND etc.) Remember your title page, "Trees and Forests" is due in by Monday, Tuesday at the latest. Try to research some of the animals and plants that live in the different levels of the forest. That is a page in your duo tang too! What is a producer, consumer, decomposer? We looked fantastic as a group in ORANGE to represent how "Every Child Matters!" Your spelling tests went home today. Show your parents how you did. Anyone who had corrections to do, please write out the word three times each and hand it in to me on Monday. Have a great weekend! Orange shirt day tomorrow! Don't forget about our bonus spelling word ......reconcile. Tell your parents what that word means and why Canadians are trying to reconcile with the First Nations peoples regarding Residential Schools. Your Visual Journal pages that represent "Significance" - I am loved, I belong and I matter AND the t-shirt about how every child matters and our story of how we belong are looking fantastic!
Congratulations to those students who managed their time and put in the effort to get their Leaf Project in by the due date. That must feel great! They look un-be -leaf-able! Your newly acquired knowledge about leaves is going to tie in nicely with our community walk with the expert tomorrow at 8:30. Please be here on time, dressed for the weather and with some good questions to ask. I really enjoyed the excitement I noticed when we did the first few pages in our JUMP math workbooks. Get your parents to quiz you on saying some numbers like, "How do you say this number - 2 340 601?" "What is the value of the underlined digit?" Today the boys and girls made a two page spread in their Visual Journals to represent the SMART goals they are striving to achieve by December 10th. As we discussed at Parent/Teacher interviews, we want their goals to be relevant and something that will challenge them, but, with effort and commitment, is attainable.
The LEAF CLASSIFICATION PROJECT is due tomorrow! I'm excited to see the projects come in. The ones I've seen so far are beautifully displayed and are very creative! Please remember to include the marking rubric that is in your green science duo tang with the project, AND remember to bring your duo tang for Science tomorrow. Ask your child why Friday is designated ORANGE shirt day. What are Canadians trying to reconcile? What does reconcile mean? (We looked it up in the dictionary and I think this would be a great bonus spelling word for the test on Friday ....hint, hint!) There are some interesting you tube links on the topic of residencial schools for the First Nations children. Ask your child what childrens' rights were infringed upon. Friday is also our community walk. Please dress for the weather. We have a guest speaker coming in to take us on the walk and to discuss trees and the natural surroundings/ecosystems. Try to come up with some interesting questions we can ask the expert. Do you know the names of the trees that your leaves came from? Maybe he can identify the type of tree! |
